Let's help liberate today's woman

Do you believe in them? I do. So does my family and all my dear ones. GOD/Almighty – you believe in them? I do. I am a moving testimony of God’s miracle!

In October 2017, I had a brain hemorrhage, caused by Moya Moya syndrome, went into coma and was taken into emergency, treated in the ICU of hospital with a couple of immediate surgeries, continued to be kept in coma and then sent to a rehabilitation center. Then had couple of more bypass surgeries in my head in 2018. Now, 1+ year on, we are trying and doing our best to be back in our routine, and getting there slowly.

I am Hema,39 years old and living in Germany with my husband Rajesh and our 4 year old child.

I have never aspired to write anything on the internet but this specific episode in our life, I must write it down for I have a very strong feeling that I should do so, to spread some positivity, to be a ray of hope for someone who might be reading this.

Would you believe me if I told you the following facts –

  • I had a brain hemorrhage in Oct 2017 followed by a stroke which affected my left side
  • I was in a coma for a few weeks starting last week of October 2017 and the doctors informed my husband that no one knew when I would wake up?
  • I did wake up and was bed ridden after that, I couldn’t move myself on the bed. I needed help to even turn!
  • I was totally disoriented and hallucinated a lot in Oct – Dec 2017
  • I was on brie (paste) food in Nov 2017 and I had the danger of choking on my food. I had to eat under supervision of a therapist
  • I was on a wheelchair to even go from my hospital bed to the toilet 5 feet away
  • Needed someone to push my wheelchair from my room to the therapy sessions and back to the room
  • Could not walk without someone’s help until Jan 2018
  • I had 2 bypass surgeries in my head in 2018
  • I could not lift a small bag, could not sit down on the floor until July 2018
  • That I have 5 resealed holes in my skull

Things or God in the form of people who motivated and supported through the tough phase of our life are –

  • Cooperation of our young child
  • My husband is the huge rock foundation
  • Our closest friends circle here in Germany
  • My immediate family
  • Wonderful medical staff including the paramedics, duty emergency doctor, medical team in the hospital where I was treated under emergency, the doctors and the nurses in the rehabilitation center, doctors and their teams who operated on me, the wonderful nurses who took take of me post my operations
  • My closest friends in India and all over
  • Group and special prayers conducted by friends for my recovery
  • Dear ones still praying for my return to normalcy and their goodwill

How I am today:

  • I am very much independent (mostly). I travelled back to Germany on my own with my child
  • I become tired very quickly
  • I am able to do my normal routine with quite a few breaks in between
  • I am able to take care of my child
  • I drive independently, again
  • I try and keep my cooking simple, but I manage cooking

Points which helped me reach from where I was to where I am today, apart from the above stated:

  • Give time for your body to recover
  • Push yourself to do more and to know where to stop pushing
  • Prayer
  • Have faith and patience(with yourself too)
  • Listen to your body
  • Surround yourself with positivity and happiness
  • Try to cut out the negativity even in thoughts
  • Be grateful, thankful for what you have
  • Learn to handle the fact that you cannot control everything what happens. It’s just with hope that we plan anything and actually we cannot control ANYTHING

Very few people could be as determined and strong minded to fight anything and everything that stands as a hurdle to them. Loved this one…
