Let's help liberate today's woman

“Make choices in life on your own but what you choose should make a difference in the life of others.”

A thought provoking Thursday wish to the thoughtful and multifaceted readers of STTHREEJEEVAN who I’m sure have been waiting for today’s writing. I dedicate this writing to all the women who in some way or the other have influenced others’ lives and brought about a significant change in their lives.

It’s exam time for the board classes and the atmosphere going on par with the outside climate is slightly heated up at home as well. The parents of twelfth standard especially are the victims of stress and tension. They are too worked up with the thoughts about their childrens’ marks in the upcoming exams. They have been living with an age old inhibition that these marks are going to decide their future or possibly help them pick a course to pursue a profession of their choice. The present rat race is to get through the competitive exams so that the children get placed in reputed colleges. Most of us want a white-collared job for our children which has it’s own comfort zone. The main thing you look forward is a posh ambience, transportation facilities and above of all a good remunerative package. We also take an immense pride in choosing a foreign university to educate them. All this is mainly to showcase our status to the people in the society we live in. There’s nothing wrong in such a desire but then how about one’s duty towards one’s own country.

To meet the competition of the present, we engage them in various co-curricular activities. Medals and shields adorn our houses till our children are in class 9, then it has no value apart from being dusted once in a while. We ignore them in the name of academics. Many of us fail to realize that our children are competent enough to crack the NATIONAL DEFENSE ACADEMY exams. Many of them who were a part of the student movements like Scouts & Guides or National Cadet Corps would have had a desire too. Did we discover that?  No, because we do not think beyond corporate lives. We know about the defense forces but don’t take a step forward. We have a lurking fear of losing our children in the battle field. If this had been the thought of all, then there would have been no security for all of us. We would have lived under the clutches of violence and terror forever. Just think of all those mothers who have sent their children to serve in the defense forces.

First of all we need to come out of the conviction that everyone in the armed forces goes for a war. There are various departments which work towards the safety and security of a country. Physical fitness of course is one of the prerequisites along with quantitative aptitude and logical reasoning. These attributes are very much present in the present day children because of their wide exposure. Enrollment into the defence forces will not only discipline the children but also make them responsible in the long run. We admire the valour of Chatrapati Shivaji, Rani Lakshmibai, Abhinandan Vartaman and so many others. If you try to be a bit analytical, their mothers had a great role in moulding them. My question to you at this juncture is that why don’t you make an effort in being an exemplary mother. What’s stopping you!!! Think and take a right decision but don’t impose it over your children.

On the eve of INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY, all of us here from STHREEJEEVAN are waiting to hear more from the extraordinary women who are on the path to achieve milestones.

A big applause for you in advance for being the wonderful WOMAN you are.
