Dreams Shattered

Muskaan, the girl with confidence, charm and beauty, her father’s pride. She was a girl every husband would aspire of.  She was very intelligent, excelled in academics, a champ at chess. Muskaan was the charm of the family. Her father doted on her. She was good in everything. She could excel and rise in any career. Her entrepreneurial skills were inborn. Her father aspired that she should rise as a topnotch entrepreneur of the country. But “Fate”….yes that’s the word. Fate had something else in store for her.

Suddenly her parents died in a car crash. She was left alone with her elder brother and his wife. Her sister-in-law was not willing to take her responsibility. So against her wishes they forcefully got her married to a man ten years older than her. She was just 19 and her husband was 29.

Rajeev had an established business at the time of their marriage. It was a family owned business which he had taken over from his ailing father after his MBA. He was a dominating husband. He thought having an MBA degree made him an entrepreneur and that he could manage the business effectively.  He never heeded to Muskaan’s advice, suggestions and opinions. He belittled her stating she doesn’t have the skills to run a business though deep inside him he very well knew she was capable of building a huge empire. So he started dominating her. He would shout at her unnecessarily, one out of ego and other out of the fear in his mind that she would supersede him. She was not allowed to work. She was supposed to be at home, take care of family. She was confined to the four walls of their house.

She knows she is capable and can do something to create her own identity. But the question is “how” and “where”. How do we overcome such situations when our family does not give us the required support?

You need someone to understand you and motivate you. There are many Muskaan(s) in this world who do not know how to start, where to start. Our potential lies in our own self. It’s just that we need someone to channelize that for us and bring in that confidence back.

We at Sthreejeevan are ever ready to heed and help……
